On October 18, Total Accounting Care proudly welcomed Janisha Watkins to our team.  Janisha joins TAC as a staff accountant, after working in the accounts departments of several local non-profits.

While she currently resides in Herndon, Virginia, Janisha is a self-proclaimed “military brat” who spent some of her formative years overseas. Her father worked in transportation for the U.S. Army, and her family spent many years in Germany.  This upbringing fueled Janisha’s lifelong love of travel, art and culture and greatly impacted her academic path.

Janisha attended high school locally in Ashburn, graduating from Freedom High School in 2011.  She excelled in school, and was awarded a full scholarship to the Honor’s College at Claflin University in in South Carolina, where she attained a bachelor’s degree in history in 2015. She then attained a master’s degree in anthropology from Union Institute in 2019.  While working full-time at TAC and learning the ins and outs of the accounting profession, Janisha is also pursuing a second master’s degree in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University. Her ultimate dream is to run the accounting department of a museum or art gallery one day.

Janisha was inspired to pursue a career in accounting after a mentor at her previous job encouraged it. She came to TAC to receive real world, hands-on accounting experience at a well-respected firm. “I’m like a sponge,” she said. “Whatever you are willing to teach me, I will learn.”

In that vein, Janisha’s current focus is helping TAC clients with their basic bookkeeping needs, but she hopes to learn much more about the accounting profession in the meantime. She hopes to one day become a C.P.A., and aims to begin those pursuits once her current master’s program is complete.

During her free time, Janisha enjoys spending time with family, going to museums, trying new foods/restaurants and traveling – which she hopes to do more of now that COVID restrictions are lifting. She recently enjoyed a wonderful visit to New Orleans this summer, but calls Florence, Italy (where she studied for several months in college) her most favorite travel destination.

Please join us in welcoming Janisha Watkins to our T.A.C. team!
