An audio book you must hear – The E Myth Revisited
If you spend a lot of time in your car, audio books are a great way to use traffic time productively. My favorite recent “read” is The E Myth Revisited by Michael E. Berger. It is based on his book series of the same name.
In the book, Gerber delves into why most small businesses fail. He develops the concept of working “on” the business as opposed to “in” the business. He also takes the position that a small business without a standardized set of business procedures is really just a job for the owner with no real prospects of success.
He calls on examples of small business success such as McDonalds and Mrs. Fields cookies as examples of highly standardized procedures leading to success. He tells the story of Ray Croc seeing the seeds of his future success at McDonalds in the standardized process of cooking hamburgers in the exact same way all the time.
Gerber also examines why franchised businesses have much higher success rates than independent businesses. He argues that independent business owners fail, because they do not operate with the high degree of standardization required in franchise businesses. He then examines ways to create the standards that lead to success.
Turn your traffic time into learning time. Read The E Myth Revisited.
Thanks for reading!!
